Through this point we can come to the conclusion that almost every electric circuit requires 30mA and MCBs protection. In fact it is mandatory and applies to all the domestic and residential installations as instructed under 17th edition wiring regulations that all socket outlets need to be protected by 30 mA RCD whether it is on ground floor or top floor of the house.

Frequently Asked Questions...
Earth leakage in 2x36W Fluorescent?
I have some lighting circuits that are on long cable runs, so i added 30mA RCD's as i calculated the Zs to be too high for the MCB......now its tripping. I am thinking of replacing with 100mA RCDs but would like to be sure. I know fluorescents leak a little, but dont have any data on how much. Help please.
The cables are installed and the breaker was sized in accordance with the selection chart in the merlin gerin catalogue. I think the 100mA RCD will be fine but would like confirmation before purchasing. Thanks for your answer though.
Answer:
Fluorescents have a capacitor fitted for power factor compensation.
It would be across the mains input.
If this is fitted from active to earth, the current in the capacitor might be enough to trip the RCD because the RCD would see this as leakage to ground.
I would connect it from Active to Neutral.
Not sure you should modify it if the circuit diagram on the fluoro shows it connected to ground. Better get local advice on what is legal in your area.
Also check with a multimeter that there isn't actually a fault, of course.
