Frequently Asked Questions...
Washing Machine Tripping MCB - Why?
My Hotpoint WM22 washing machine is tripping my 32 AMP MCB. Motor brushes are almost new. No other appliances are on. Nothing has changed in circuits etc. for 6 years. Motor sparks and MCB trips (i.e. not RCB not fuse). Assume motor is drawing excessive current so has some fault. Is it possible to run simple test on a motor to identify fault? Can armateur be tested?
Motor turns fine by hand - it is not seized.
Answer:
Unplug washer from mains supply. Disconnect the the 7 or 8 pin socket from motor and see if RCB still trips. You can switch on washer with socket just left not plugged to moter. to see if it trips. If this stops tripping the motor is faulty. Moters are common for blowing RCB.
(If u just take off belt motor is still in circuit and will still trip RCB.)
