Normal eye pressure ranges from 10-21 mm Hg
When the pressure inside the eye is higher than normal it refers to ocular hypertension. Normal eye pressure ranges from 10-21 mm Hg but when the person suffer from Ocular hypertension than the eye pressure is greater than 21 mm Hg. People of all ages can suffer from the problem of Ocular hypertension. Ocular hypertension is more common in those people whose family have the history of this problem. People who are very nearsighted and have the problem of diabetes, Ocular hypertension is very common in them. It does not have any sign and symptoms but doctor can measure the pressure of the eyes with an instrument known as tonometer, which further help the doctor to tell your eye health status.
Causes High Eye Pressure
In African-Americans people over 40, the problem of high eye pressure is very common. Anyone can suffer from the problem of high eye pressure. Any family having history of high eye pressure then it is very obvious that it can pass to any other member of family. Diabetic and nearsightedness people also suffer from this problem. Certain medications like steroids and trauma can also cause high intraocular pressure. Whitish ring of lipid deposits around the eye is a common condition that associated with high eye pressure. In older adults condition called corneal arcs is very common. The reason behind why corneal arcs and high eye pressure appear linked, is not yet known.
Treatment of High Eye Pressure
People who have work on the computer, they are at the risk of this problem. Proper rest need to be given to the eyes. There are various medicine available in the medical store for the treatment of high eye pressure. Among all the medicine available Xalatan is considered to be the best and most recommended by the doctor for the treatment. Xalatan is a prescription medicine used for the treatment of Glaucoma and Ocular hypertension. Its main ingredients is Latanoprost Ophthalmic. It comes in form of bottle and used in form of drop. Xalatan is available by both generic and brand name. The other product related to Xalatan is Cosopt, Betagan and Betoptic.
Before taking Xalatan medicine you should know full information about the medicine. Inform your doctor if you already taking any medicine for your eye to avoid serious side effect. Xalatan medicine should be used as prescribe by the doctor as the use of Xalatan can change the colour of the eye lashes. Do not use this medicine if you are allergic to it or to its ingredient. Use this medicine very carefully as it has so many serious to common side effect. Do not increase or decrease the dose of the medicine. Do not use this medicine with contact lenses. Keep all the medicine away from the reach of the children and pet.
